G. Ravichandran, John E. Goode, Jr. Professor of Aerospace and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Director of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories (GALCIT) has been selected to receive the Chevalier de l'ordre des Palmes Académiques, which is the Knight grade of the French Republic's Order of Academic Palms. Founded by Napoleon in 1808 to honor educators and scholars,  this distinction recognizes eminent personalities who have made significant contributions to the development of French culture, science, and education.

Aerospace engineer and executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company Joanne Maguire is the 2010 recipient of the prestigious International von Kármán Wings Award for her sustained and visionary accomplishments in aerospace. The von Kármán Wings Award acknowledges outstanding contributions by international innovators, leaders, and pioneers in aerospace and is presented by the Aerospace Historical Society, which is part of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at Caltech (GALCIT). Professor Guruswami Ravichandran and Justin L. Brown, graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, have been chosen to receive the Best Paper Award at the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM) 2010 Conference. The title of the paper is "High Pressure Hugoniot Measurements Using Converging Shocks".

The dual master's degree program between Caltech and École Polytechnique in Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautics and Fluid Mechanics has won the Institute of International Education Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education, in the category of International Exchange Partnerships. The dual degree program spans two academic years; students spend a year at each institution and completed a six month internship in academic or industrial laboratories. Along with the two partnering institutions the program is also supported by the Partner University Fund. [Program Overview]

Professor G. Ravichandran, the John E. Goode, Jr. Professor of Aeronautics and Mechanical Engineering, and Director of GALCIT has been elected Fellow of the Society of Experimental Mechanics. Designation as an SEM Fellow is reserved to a select group of individuals that have made notable contributions to the Society and to the field of Experimental Mechanics.
